Davies Suffers Serious Injuries in Crash
We apologize if we're a little late in reporting on the whole Charlie Davies situation, it's been quite a crazy day and we've been waiting for more details to come in. Please excuse us if this is a little less refined than our normal posts, this situation has really left many of us stunned and at a loss for words.
For those have not yet heard, Davies was a passenger in a one-car accident early this morning outside of Washington DC. Davies was one of three people in the car. 22 year old Ashley Roberta, another passenger, was killed in the crash. Davies spent a better part of the day in surgery to treat what is being reported as a fractured femur and tibia. The 23 year old striker is in serious condition following the surgeries, and there still are questions about how these injuries will affect his playing career and, more importantly, the rest of his life. Though not much is certain at this point, there is the possibility that Davies' playing career could be cut short by this terrible accident. For now, let's hope first and foremost that Charlie is able to recover from these injuries and regain his health before worrying about soccer.
Davies' teammates have been understandably distraught following the news of his injury. Via Twitter, players like Stuart Holden, Maurice Edu, Jozy Altidore, and Freddy Adu all expressed sincere sadness and sent their thoughts to their injured friend. The US will play tomorrow night with a lot on their mind, as Davies' injuries have brought a somber mood over a previously jubilant camp.
As more details emerge on the nature of Charlie's injuries, his health, and his future, we will be sure to post them. We send our thoughts and prayers to Davies and the families of everyone involved.
