Dempsey Hits a Bomb

Clint Dempsey and Fulham were in action today against Stoke City, and, like clockwork, Dempsey turned another good performance for the Cottagers. He once again served as a key cog in the attack while also contributing solid defensive work, something he has done week in and week out for Roy Hodgson's side. He also scored a goal late in the second half to cut Stoke's lead in half, but that too is usually not a particularly surprising event for Demspey. Today, however, it was quite the surprise, as the tally came from a broken play and an absolutely fantastic strike from distance.

Fans who have watched Clint over the last two years remember far too many almost-golazos; blazing shots that ring off the bar, are stopped by a stunning save, or dip just wide. They send our hearts racing, but have always disappointed a bit because they don't find the back of the net. But today, Dempsey was finally able to celebrate after one of those incredible shots, as his volley from 30 yards out was able to elude the outstretched arms of Steve Simonsen and send the Fulham fans in attendance into a frenzy. Fulham would eventually lose the match 3-2, but it doesn't take too much away from what was a superb strike. Dempsey Stunner v. Stoke City

I don't usually reserve entire posts for one highlight, but Dempsey's spectacular goal has been the cherry on top of a fantastic run of form for a player that is looking more and more confident as South Africa approaches. USMNT fans should be very excited about what they're seeing from Deuce, who is quickly establishing himself as one of the EPL's finest.
