Video Daily Double: Landon's Assists

Landon Donovan has picked up right where he left off with Everton, assisting on a Galaxy goal in each of the first two games of the MLS season.

Here's the first one (at 1:15), a well struck free kick from the wing to Edson Buddle's head at the top of the six yard box. The 6th minute goal was the only one in a 1-0 Galaxy win over New England:

Last night, Donovan unselfishly passed up an opportunity to go in on goal late in the second half, instead slotting a perfectly weighted ball to Edson Buddle in the center to cap off a 2-0 SuperClasico win:

Landon was involved in the first Galaxy goal last night, as well, though it wasn't a primary assist, so I'll just leave it at those two for now.  All in all, another good start to the season for Donovan, whose good form wasn't slowed by a trip back across the Atlantic.

It's really early to talk about this, and being a dynamo fan I'd rather not...But If buddle continues good form for the next few months, what reason is there to leave him out of the world cup, especially if Ching is hurt?

If he keeps it up and Ching is unavailable, then I agree, he deserves to be in the conversation. If he can replicate what Herculez Gomez has done in a league with a tougher, more aggressive defensive style (closer to what would be seen at the international level than the Mexican League's more open style), it'd definitely push him towards the top of the potential replacements list.

But, as you noted, it's still very early, and Buddle's got a ton of work to do in a short period of time. Still worth keeping an eye on, though.
